ABOUT US

What is Dragon Boat at the Beach
Founded in 2007, Dragon Boat at the Beach is a cancer survivor-centered team in the Horry and Georgetown area that unites survivors, supporters, and community members. Guided by teammates who have pursued specialized training in steering, drumming, safety, and coaching ( as well as competing nationally and internationally ) our team offers a safe, supportive, and dynamic environment for both new and seasoned paddlers.

Who Can Participate
Almost everyone! We are a health and wellness program that welcomes men and women who wish to participate. We especially encourage individuals with any type of cancer to join us, but family members, friends, and community supporters are warmly invited as well. Whether you’re a survivor, a supporter, or simply interested in a positive, active lifestyle, dragon boating can bring lasting health benefits and a strong sense of camaraderie.

How Often Are The Practices Held
Weather-permitting, paddling practices are held weekly on local inland waterways.  The team practices for wellness and/or competitive racing events.  Paddlers tone muscles and build strength, balance, and endurance through regular conditioning classes.

What Are The Benefits
Through the shared experience of paddling and related social events, Dragon Boat at the Beach constitutes an active form of support, emphasizing a positive life after cancer.
